Women's Golf Concludes Chris Bannister Gamecock Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. ---- The Samford University women's golf team finished 10th overall at the Chris Bannister Gamecock Classic, hosted on Monday and Tuesday by Ohio Valley Conference foe Jacksonville State University.

Samford shot a team score of 998 through three rounds at the par-72 Silver Lakes Golf Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Host JSU won the tournament with a team score of 923, and South Alabama finished second after the team combined for a 925.

Freshman Maria Troche was the top performer for the Bulldogs, finishing 27th overall with a combined score of 242. Troche shot a 76 in the first round, but followed up with an 83 in both rounds two and three. Jacksonville State's Mercedes Harte took the individual crown, shooting a one-under-par score of 215.

Freshman Caroline Herman finished the tournament tied for 40th, shooting a 252 overall. Herman shot an 80 and added 11 strokes for round two to shoot an 81. Herman was able to come back in the final round to shoot an 81, a ten stroke improvement from her round two score.

Kelly Stout shot a 256 (82, 87, 87) for the tournament, tying for 45th place. Brooke Barriento's 260 and Courtney Warr's 262 rounded out the totals for Samford.

The Bulldogs will take a week off before heading to Clarksville, Tenn., for the Austin Peay Intercollegiate Tournament on Oct. 24-25.
