NEW ORLEANS, La. -
The Samford women's basketball team will take on the Dayton Flyers in the championship game of the Tulane Basketball Classic Thursday night at 8:00 p.m.
Samford enters the game with a record of 8-1 after a 64-55 win over Tulane Wednesday night. Dayton is now 7-3, and the Flyers are coming off a 79-77 win over Toledo Wednesday evening.
Samford enters the game on an eight-game winning streak, the longest in the eight-plus year history of the women's basketball program. The 1999-2000 team and the 2004-05 team each had four-game winning streaks. The 8-1 start is also the best start after nine games in the program's history, with last year's team posting a 7-2 mark after nine contests.
Alex Munday leads Samford in both scoring and rebounding, scoring 15.7 points and pulling down 7.0 rebounds per game. Cora Beth Smith is the team-leader in assists, dishing out 3.4 per contest.
During Wednesday night's game, Chelsee Insell became Samford's all-time leader in three-pointers made. She now has 114 for her Samford career, breaking the record of 112 set by Aimee Cochran from 1997-2001.
