BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University women's tennis team (10-6, 4-3 OVC) fell to OVC-rival Tennessee Tech on Saturday (April 2) at the Darwin C. Tennis Center, located on the campus of Samford University.
"I am very pleased with way the team played in singles today," said head coach Terri Sisk. "We have noted some improvements we need to make in doubles and will strive harder to make those adjustments. As for today, my team showed the drive and determination to be a big contender in the OVC Championships this season."
In doubles, Tennessee Tech gained the doubles point as Samford's Lauren Pitcher / Katie McMiller won the only match for the Bulldogs against TTU's Melisa Cansado /Maja Russinova, 8-6.
In singles, the Bulldogs won three out six as the Golden Eaglettes took the match win.
Winning in singles on the Bulldogs side, Sarah McKey defeated TTU's Alet Boonzaaier (3-6, 6-4, 6-1) at court No. 2, while McMiller defeated Tennessee Tech's Melisa Cansado (6-3, 6-2) at court No. 3 and at No. 5 Christie Baker won against TTU's Kay Ngiam, 7-5, 3-6 (4).

The Bulldogs will travel to battle Morehead State on Friday, April 8 in Morehead, Ky., while competing against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, April 9 in Richmond, Ky. Friday's match is set for 11 a.m., while Saturday's match will begin at 9 a.m.
