Baseball Plays Host To Eastern Kentucky In Weekend OVC Series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will play host to Eastern Kentucky in an Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

Samford is currently 13-23 overall and 6-6 in the OVC after winning two-of-three games at Eastern Illinois last weekend. EKU has a record of 10-21 overall and 4-7 in the OVC. The Colonels lost two-of-three games to Jacksonville State last weekend.

Samford is scheduled to start Parker Gargis, Stephen Artz and Chandler Tidwell on the mound this weekend. Gargis is currently 2-3 with an 8.55 ERA. Artz has a record of 2-5 and an ERA of 4.45. Tidwell has a record of 2-5 and an ERA of 5.77.

Garrett Rice leads the team in hits with 37, home runs with four and RBI with 32. Matt Alling and John Morgan are tied for second in hits with 36 each. Alling is also second in home runs with three and in RBI with 31.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., and a single game on Sunday also at 1:00 p.m. All three games can be heard worldwide on the internet at www.samfordsports.com.
