BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford baseball team will travel to Morehead, Ky., this weekend for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at Morehead State.
Samford enters the game with a record of 13-28 overall and 6-9 in the OVC. Morehead State is currently 23-17 overall and 11-3 in league play. MSU currently leads the conference, while Samford is in a tie for seventh place with Eastern Illinois.
Matt Alling currently leads Samford with 41 hits and 33 RBI. John Morgan and Garrett Rice are tied for second on the team in hits with 40 each. Rice leads the team in home runs with four, and is second on the team in RBI with 32. Morgan and Rice are tied for the team lead in doubles with eight.
Samford is scheduled to start Parker Gargis, Stephen Artz and Chandler Tidwell on the mound this weekend. Gargis, who will start Saturday's first game, is currently 2-4 with a 7.62 ERA. Artz is scheduled for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, and he brings in a record of 2-6 and a 4.52 ERA. Tidwell is scheduled to start the third game of the series. Tidwell currently has a record of 2-6 and an ERA of 5.76.
Last season, Samford swept Morehead State in an OVC series at Joe Lee Griffin Field. Samford won the games by scores of 5-2, 2-1 and 8-4.
Samford and Morehead State will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., and a single game on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. A full game recap and stats will be posted online at www.samfordsports.com.
