Baseball To Take On No. 24 Mississippi State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will take on the 24th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson, Miss., Tuesday night.

Samford enters the game with a record of 7-18 overall and 2-4 in the OVC after winning the third game of its series at Austin Peay on Sunday. Mississippi State is currently 17-7 overall and 4-4 in the SEC after losing twice at Tennessee on Sunday.

Samford is scheduled to start Scott Kubina on the mound Tuesday night. Kubina is currently 1-0 on the season with an 8.74 ERA. In his last outing, Kubina got the win in Samford's 9-6 win at No. 21 Auburn last Tuesday night. Mississippi State is scheduled to start Jon Crosby. Crosby currently has a record of 3-1 and an ERA of 3.15.

Statistically, Justin Worthington leads Samford with a .338 batting average. Worthington and Garrett Rice are tied for the team lead in hits with 27. Rice leads the team in home runs with four and in RBI with 22. Matt Alling is second in both home runs (three) and RBI (20).

Samford is looking for its second-straight win over Mississippi State, as Samford upset MSU, 6-0, in Starkville, Miss., last season.
