Baseball To Play OVC Series At Tennessee-Martin

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will play a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at Tennessee-Martin this weekend.

Samford enters the series with a record of 17-33 overall and 10-11 in the OVC after sweeping a series against Tennessee Tech last weekend. Tennessee-Martin is currently 11-36 overall and 5-15 in conference play after losing two-of-three games at Jacksonville State last weekend.

Samford's 10-11 conference record places the Bulldogs in sixth place in the OVC. Morehead State leads the conference with a record of 14-6. Tennessee-Martin's 5-15 conference record puts the Skyhawks in a tie for ninth in the league with Tennessee Tech.

Samford is scheduled to start Parker Gargis on the mound in Saturday's first game, Stephen Artz in game two on Saturday and Chandler Tidwell in Sunday's game. Gargis enters the week with a record of 3-5 and an ERA of 5.57. Artz is currently 4-6 with a 4.30 ERA. Tidwell enters the weekend with a record of 3-7 and an ERA of 5.85.

John Morgan currently leads Samford in hitting with a .325 batting average. Matt Alling leads the team in hits with 53, doubles with 10 and RBI with 38. Garrett Rice leads the team in home runs with five.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., and a single game on Sunday, also at 1:00 p.m.
