Women's Basketball Plays Host To BSC Monday Night

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will play its home opener Monday night when it plays host to cross-town rival Birmingham-Southern at Seibert Hall.

Samford enters the game with a record of 1-1 after a 62-54 win at Memphis Nov. 17. BSC is currently 1-2 after a 70-58 loss at Alabama A&M Nov. 16.

Samford and Birmingham-Southern will be meeting for the fourth time, with Samford holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. Last season, Samford defeated the Panthers, 54-49, at BSC. The teams first met on Dec. 22, 2001, with BSC defeating Samford, 53-48 in a tournament hosted by UAB.

Samford is led in scoring by Alex Munday and Monica Maxwell, averaging 13.0 points each. Munday leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 7.0 rebounds per game. Taryn Towns leads the team in assists, dishing out 3.5 per game.
