Women's Hoops Takes Part In Sheraton Roundball Classic This Weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will take part in the Sheraton Roundball Classic at Birmingham-Southern's Bill Battle Coliseum this weekend. Samford will take on Alabama A&M on Friday and Centenary on Saturday.

Samford enters the game with a record of 2-1 after a 73-66 win over Birmingham-Southern Nov. 20. Alabama A&M is currently 2-1 after an 86-64 loss to Appalachian State Nov. 18. Centenary is currently 1-3 after an 83-63 loss to New Orleans Nov. 21.

Samford and Alabama A&M are meeting for the second time with A&M holding a 1-0 advantage in the series. The lone meeting was on Nov. 29, 2002, with A&M winning, 67-55. Samford and Centenary have met just once, with Samford winning, 100-67, on Dec. 19, 1999.

Samford is led in scoring and rebounding by junior forward Alex Munday (11.7 ppg., 6.3 rpg.). Junior guard Taryn Towns leads the team in assists, dishing out 3.6 per game.
