BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford football team held its first spring scrimmage Monday evening at Seibert Stadium. The scrimmage consisted of 91 plays.
Head Coach Bill Gray said he saw some good things in his team's first full scrimmage.
"I felt good about it," Gray said. "The most important thing is we were able to get some quality reps in without getting anyone injured. We did have some bright spots. We saw some guys on defense playing with enthusiasm. Offensively, we had our moments, but I thought the defense really did some good things today.
"We have a lot of bodies out here that saw some work today," Gray said. "Hopefully, we will be closer tomorrow than we are today to finding out who can and who can't do what we need them to do."
Dante Williams, who served as a backup quarterback in 2005, completed 13-of-19 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown. Jefferson Adcock was good on 11-of-19 passes for 72 yards. Also at quarterback, Wes Alexander completed 4-of-8 passes for 37 yards on the night.
"All three of the quarterbacks are working hard," Gray said. "Dante and Jefferson are battling hard for that starting spot."
The Bulldogs will practice again on Tuesday in helmets and shorts at 4:00 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.
