BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford University women's golf team will host the 2006 Samford Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday at Timberline Golf Course in Calera, Ala.
This marks the fourth year of the 36-hole tournament, which have all been played at the Jerry Pate-designed Timberline Course. The University of Alabama won the first Samford Intercollegiate, in 2003. Jacksonville State won the tournament in 2004, and Campbell won in 2005.
There will be 15 teams competing in the two-day tournament. Samford will see several familiar teams, including Ohio Valley Conference foes, Jacksonville State, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech. Intra-city rival Birmingham-Southern, along with in-state foes South Alabama and Troy will also be competing. Additionally, Micholls State, University of New Orleans, Middle Tennessee State, Belmont, Lipscomb, Western Kentucky, Centenary and McNeese State will all play in the Samford Intercollegiate.
The fourth-annual Samford Intercollegiate is set to tee off on Monday at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start. The teams will play one round on Monday and the final round on Tuesday. Results will be posted at www.samfordsports.com upon completion of each round.
