GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The Samford University men's golf team finished in third place at the 37th annual Furman Intercollegiate, at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, N.C. The Bulldogs maintained solid play throughout the tournament to finish third in the 18-team tournament.
The Bulldogs shot a combined score of 300 in the final round round after shooting a 294 in the first round and 291 in the second round on the 6800 yard course. Samford's combined score for the 56-hole tournament was 885, just behind first-place Maryland's 867 and Tennessee-Chattanooga's 879.
"The golf course was playing a little tough today," said Samford head coach Woodie Eubanks. "It was windy out and we probably could have shot a little better to finish second, but overall I'm happy with the way the guys played and the way we finished in this tournament. Maryland was tough to catch, but this is a huge tournament and we did really well."
Reed Davis and Nathan Turner were the top finishers for the Bulldogs. The two tied for 17th, with combined scores of 222 (+6). Turner improved eight strokes on his second-round score of 79, to shoot a one-under-par 71 on the day, while Davis shot a 77 on the day (+5).
Bradley Pate also fired a 77 on the day, finishing 27th overall with a combined score of 224 (+8). Ryan Mayberry shot a combined score of 225 (+9) to finish tied for 31st after shooting an 80 (+8) in the final round.
