Men's Golf Improves 10 Strokes In Round Two Of OVC Championships

PADUCAH, Ky. ---- The Samford University men's golf team is tied for seventh following two rounds of competition at the 2006 O'Reilly Ohio Valley Conference Championship at the Country Club of Paducah. The ten teams in the tournament ready for the final round of competition on Tuesday.

Samford is tied for seventh, with a combined score of 600 through two rounds of the tournament. The Bulldogs shot a 305 in the first round, and improved 10 strokes in the second round, to shoot a 295 in the second round of the three-round tournament.

Andrew Villarreal leads the Bulldogs, with a 36-hole score of 149. Villarreal is tied for seventeenth, firing a 75 in the first round and a 74 in the second round. Reed Davis and Bradley Pate turned in the lowest second round scores for the Bulldogs, as both fired 73's on the day. Davis is tied for 23rd, with a combined score of 151 (78, 73), and Pate is tied for 27th with a two-round score of 152 (79, 73).

Nathan Turner fired a pair of 75's in the first two rounds, to finish with a combined 150. Turner is tied for 20th after the first two rounds. Ryan Mayberry rounds out the top-five for the Bulldogs with a combined score 156 (77, 79). Mayberry is tied for 36th overall.

Third-round action of the 2006 O'Reilly OVC Championship is set to tee off at 8:30. Results will be posted at www.ovcsports.com following the conclusion of the final round.
