The Samford baseball team fell, 4-1, in a non-conference game at Kennesaw State Wednesday night.
For Samford (23-18) at the plate, John Morgan drove in one run in a 1-for-4 performance. Benji Waite, one of seven Samford pitchers used in the game, took the loss on the mound, giving up four runs in a third of an inning.
Kennesaw State (21-21) was led at the plate by Andy Hudson, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Justin Freeman pitched 2.0 innings in relief, giving up one run on two hits to pick up the win for the Owls.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning when Kennesaw State broke out on top with four runs to take a 4-0 lead. The majority of the damage was done when Hudson doubled with the bases loaded, driving in three runs.
Samford plated its lone run in the top of the eighth inning when Morgan doubled to drive in P.J. Fandetti to cut KSU's lead to 4-1.
Samford will return to action on Saturday, April 29, when the Bulldogs open a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at Eastern Kentucky with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. Central. The teams will also play a single game on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central.
