Volleyball Hires Eric Melton As New Assistant Coach

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Eric Melton has been hired as the new assistant coach for the Samford University volleyball team, it was announced by Samford head coach Michelle Durban on Wednesday.

"We are excited to have Eric joining our staff," Durban said. "I believe his experience at Illinois State and as a high school head coach will be very beneficial as our program continues to progress."

Melton joins the Bulldogs after spending a year as the manager at Illinois State University. While at Illinois State, Melton also took on a number of coaching responsibilities, including facilitating tape exchange and taking and recording statistics.

Melton also spent two years as a head coach at the high school level, as the head girl's volleyball coach at Fenton High School and later as the head boy's volleyball coach at Fenton. Additionally, Melton coached the Sideout Boy's Volleyball Club.

"I'm really excited about joining Samford's coaching staff," said Melton. "The team has great potential, and is surrounded by great coaches. I'm looking forward to contributing to the program."

Melton played for the Sports Performance Volleyball Club in 1998, and then for one season at Quincy University. He played for two seasons as a member of the club team at Illinois State University. Melton will graduate in May 2006 from Illinois State University, with a bachelor's degree in Science and History.
