BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford University women's tennis team heads to Gainesville, Fla., for the first round of the 2006 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships, beginning Friday, May 12 at the Ring Tennis Complex on the University of Florida campus.
Samford (14-6) faces No. 4-seeded Florida (21-1) in the first round on Friday at 10 a.m. The other first-round match in the Florida Regional features No. 32 Maryland (12-11) against No. 40 South Florida (16-5) beginning at 1 p.m. The winners of those first round matches play each other on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Samford is participating in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history. The Bulldogs received their second automatic bid under head coach Terri Sisk, after claiming the 2006 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship on April 23. Florida will play in its 24th NCAA Tournament, having appeared in all but one of the 25 tournaments.
First-round action is set to begin at 10 a.m., when the Bulldogs and Gators face off. Live results will be posted at www.gatorzone.com.
