BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
Samford University has hired Leslie Claybrook as its associate director of athletics for compliance, Director of Athletics Bob Roller announced Monday.
Claybrook comes to Samford after working at Birmingham-Southern College in a similar capacity since 1999. She will work with Samford's student-athletes and coaches in all areas of NCAA compliance and will also be involved in sport oversight and management.
"We are so excited to have Leslie joining our staff," Roller said. "I have admired the excellent job that she did for the entire Birmingham Southern athletics department, and we are fortunate to have her join our team. Along with her duties with compliance, she will play an active role in all aspects of our department."
"I am looking forward to joining the staff at Samford," Claybrook said. "This is an exciting new challenge for me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with the student-athletes, coaches and staff at Samford."
While at BSC, Claybrook was instrumental in the department's transition from NAIA to NCAA Division I. She also started the NCAA Compliance Program at BSC, and she assisted the institution with the completion of the NCAA self-study program.
Prior to her time at BSC, Claybrook served as a compliance assistant with the Southeastern Conference (SEC). She was also an assistant women's basketball coach at Mercer (1994-96) and Troy (1996-97).
In addition to her regular duties in the athletics department, Claybrook is an official for WNBA and women's college basketball games.
Claybrook, a native of Luverne, Ala., is a 1994 graduate of the University of Alabama, where she was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member as a member of the women's basketball team. She received master's degree from Mercer University in 1998.
