Football Returns to Practice With Full-Pads Workout Wednesday

Oct. 3, 2007

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for a little over two hours in full pads Wednesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium.

The Bulldogs are open this week, and are coming off a 43-20 loss at Eastern Kentucky. Samford returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 13, when the Bulldogs play at defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Tennessee-Martin.

"It was a disappointing loss," Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said. "Our kids played hard. When you go back and study the film, there were so many positives. We did make some mistakes we have to correct."

Sullivan said he felt the open week would benefit his team.

"The bye week really came at a good time for us," Sullivan said. "We have some players who are nicked up and they need to heal a little bit. It also gives us some time as a staff to go back and self-scout what we are doing, offensively, defensively and on special teams. There are some areas we need to work on and we started that this afternoon."

The Bulldogs took Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off before returning to practice on Wednesday.

"We practiced today and will go again tomorrow," Sullivan said. "We will give them off Friday and Saturday and get back to work on Sunday."

Samford will practice again at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Seibert Stadium.

Samford's Oct. 13 game at Tennessee-Martin is scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff from UTM's Hardy M. Graham Stadium.
