JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - The Samford University men's golf team finished 11th in the Grub Mart-Young Oil Intercollegiate Tuesday hosted by Jacksonville State University. The Bulldogs sat at 11th place after round two on Monday, but could not do enough in the final round to move up into the top ten.
After round two, Bulldog junior John Turnipseed sat in a tie for 50th place, shooting 84-77 on the day. In the final round, Turnipseed shot a 72 to rocket him 15 spot to a tie for 32nd place.
Reed Davis finished three spots behind Turnipseed in a tie for 35th. Davis sat comfortably in the top 20 after round two on Monday, shooting 77-75 to place him in a tie at 15th. However, he shot a rough round of 82 to drop him 20 spots and finish with a 234 for the two-day event.
Rounding out the Samford team are Andrew Villarreal, Jeremy Cox, and Bradley Pate. Villarreal finally broke 80 with a final round score of 78 to put him in 51st place, while Jeremy Cox shot 83-77-82 = 242 to finish in a tie for 57th. Bradley Pate played increasingly better in each round (84-81-80 = 245) but could not manage to break 80 to get out a tie for 63rd.
