The Samford baseball team will take on cross-town rival UAB in a pair of midweek games this week. The teams will play Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at UAB's Young Memorial Field, and again Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. at Samford's Joe Lee Griffin Field.
Samford enters the week with a record of 12-13 after dropping two-of-three games to Murray State over the weekend. UAB is currently 12-13 after falling in two-of-three games against UNC Asheville over the weekend.
Samford is led at the plate by Michael Marseco, batting .363 on the season, and he has hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games. Parker Gargis leads the team in home runs with nine, RBI with 23 and slugging percentage at .670.
Samford's starting pitcher in Tuesday's game is scheduled to be sophomore David Knapp (1-0, 2.77 ERA), while Eric Lassiter (0-1, 7.07 ERA) is scheduled to start Wednesday's game on the mound for Samford.
For UAB at the plate, J.R. Bond is currently batting .396 with a team-high 25 RBI. Ryne Lovdahl and Ryan Keedy are each batting .380. The Blazers are scheduled to start Dustin Colburn (2-1, 9.00 ERA) on the mound Tuesday night, while Wednesday's starter has not been determined.
Last season, the teams split the season series, with each team winning on the road. Samford won the first game, 8-3 in 11 innings, at UAB, and the Blazers took a 10-5 win at Samford.
Prior to Wednesday night's game at Joe Lee Griffin Field, Samford will host a Crawfish Boil, hosted by the Samford SGA, Greek Life and the Athletics Department.
