Baseball To Play At Austin Peay In Weekend OVC Series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will travel to Clarksville, Tenn., to take on the Austin Peay Governors in a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader Friday at 4:00 p.m. and a single game Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Samford enters the series with a record of 14-16 overall and 1-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while Austin Peay is currently 16-11 overall and 3-3 in conference games.

Samford is led at the plate by Michael Marseco, batting .350. Parker Gargis leads the team with 10 home runs and 27 RBI. Chandler Tidwell (2-2, 3.21 ERA), David Knapp (1-1, 4.45 ERA), Trent Hill (2-4, 5.27 ERA) and Josh Ehmke (4-3, 5.71 ERA) have led the pitching staff so far this season.

Will Hogue leads APSU with a .370 batting average, five home runs and 22 RBI. J.B. Gilbert is batting .341 for the Governors. Matt Reynolds has led the pitching staff with a 5-2 record and a 3.47 ERA. Shawn Kelley is 4-2 with a 3.51 ERA and Ryne Mantooth is 3-2 with a 6.27 ERA.

Last season, Samford swept Austin Peay in the season series at Joe Lee Griffin Field. Samford took the games by scores of 10-8, 1-0 (10 inn.) and 4-3. Since Samford joined the Ohio Valley Conference prior to the 2004 season, the teams have met 10 times, with the series tied at 5-5.
