BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Former Samford golfer Reed Davis has qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championships. The first round of the event will be held at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., Aug. 20-26.
Davis made the cut in a qualifier July 30-31, held on the north course of the Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tenn. The Memphis, Tenn., native shot a 135 to solidify a spot in the next round.
The U.S. Amateur Championship is the oldest of the 13 championships organized by the United States Golf Association. The tournament consists of two days of stroke play, with the leading 64 competitors then playing a knockout competition held at match play. From this, a champion is named. All knockout matches are over 18 holes except for the final, which consists of 36 holes.
