Volleyball To Play Host First Home Conference Match Friday

Sept. 20, 2007

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford volleyball team will play its first home Ohio Valley Conference match this Friday, Sept. 21, as it plays host to the Governors of Austin Peay. The Bulldogs are currently 7-5 (2-1 OVC) and are ranked fourth in the conference while the Governors are 6-8 (1-1 OVC) and are ranked seventh.

Samford comes off a tough loss at Jacksonville State Wednesday night as they fell in three close games to the Gamecocks. The Bulldogs hope to put up a good defensive effort against Austin Peay, who currently ranks 12th in the nation in digs. However, Samford has its own defensive weapon in junior Libero Courtney Gay. Gay also ranks 12th in the nation in dig per game and has held that spot for the past two weeks.

Austin Peay opened conference play going 1-1 on the weekend. The Governors grabbed their first conference win over Eastern Kentucky, 3-1, before falling to Morehead State, 3-0. Austin Peay is lead by senior outside hitter Dodi Szymska who leads the conference in kills and points and has earned the OVC Offensive Player of the Week for the past two weeks.

Match play starts between the Bulldogs and Governors at 7 p.m. in Seibert Gym. Follow all the action on live stats and get a full recap and results after the match at www.samfordsports.com.
