Women's Basketball Hosts Austin Peay Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will play host to Austin Peay Saturday in an Ohio Valley Conference contest at the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford enters the game with a record of 14-6 overall and 7-3 in OVC play after a 56-41 win over UT Martin Thursday night. Austin Peay is currently 5-13 overall and 2-7 in conference play after a 76-56 loss at Jacksonville State on Thursday.

In Thursday's win over UT Martin, freshman Savannah Hill scored a career-high 23 points. Freshman Emily London scored 13 points and senior Alex Munday added 10 points for the Bulldogs.

Samford and Austin Peay are meeting for the ninth time, with Samford holding a 5-3 advantage in the series. Last season Samford swept the season series. The Bulldogs won, 68-54 in Clarksville, Tenn., and 67-55 in Birmingham.

For the season, Samford is led in scoring by London, averaging 12.2 points per game. Hill is second in scoring, with an average of 10.2 points per game.

Hill is the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 5.0 rebounds per game. Sophomore Monica Maxwell is second in rebounding, with an average of 4.3 rebounds per game.

Senior Taryn Towns leads the team in assists, dishing out 3.6 assists per game. London is second in assists, with an average of 2.5 assists per game.

Entering Saturday's game, Munday needs just eight points to become the first Samford player to score 1,500 career points. She is currently the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,492 career points.

Samford players rank in the top five in the OVC in several statistical categories. London ranks second in three-point field goal percentage (47.4%), third in field goal percentage (52.3%), and fourth in free-throw percentage (84.9%). Towns ranks third in the league in assist-turnover ratio (1.89).
