BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford women's basketball team will travel to Waco, Texas, to take on the ninth-ranked Baylor Lady Bears Saturday evening at Baylor's Ferrell Center.
Samford enters the game with a record of 6-2 after a 67-62 win at Wofford on Dec. 4. Baylor is currently 8-1 after an 83-36 win over Lamar on Dec. 8.
Saturday night's game will be the first-ever meeting between Samford and Baylor. The Bulldogs are 1-0 against Big 12 teams after defeating Missouri, 65-49, on Nov. 24, 2007, in the FAU Thanksgiving Classic.
Samford is currently the national leader in fewest turnovers per game. The Bulldogs average just 10.6 turnovers per game, the top average in the nation. Samford is also ranked sixth nationally in both turnover margin (9.0) and three-point field goal defense (21.6%). The Bulldogs also rank 17th in the nation in scoring defense, giving up just 52.7 points per game so far this season.
Samford is currently led in scoring by Savannah Hill, averaging 14.1 points per game. Emily London is second with an average of 10.6 points per game, while Karmen Smith is scoring 10.1 points per contest.
Hill also leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 5.9 boards per contest. Chika Okoli is second in rebounding, with an average of 4.1 rebounds per game.
London is the team leader in assists with 26 for the season. Monica Maxwell currently ranks second in assists with 18 assists so far this season.
The Lady Bears are led by Rachel Allison, averaging 15.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Danielle Wilson is second on the team in scoring with an average of 12.6 points per game, while Jhasmin Player is averaging 10.4 points per contest.
Saturday night's game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off from the Ferrell Center.
