Women's Basketball To Play At Wofford Thursday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on the Wofford Terriers in a Southern Conference game Thursday evening.

Samford enters the game with a record of 5-2 overall and 0-1 in Southern Conference play after a 55-54 loss at Chattanooga on Monday. Wofford is currently 1-4 overall after a 78-72 non-conference win over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday. Thursday night's game is the conference-opener for Wofford.

Samford and Wofford are meeting for the fourth time, with Samford holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. The teams last met on Nov. 28, 2004, with Samford winning, 54-46 in the Sheraton Roundball Classic at Birmingham-Southern. Thursday night's game is the first meeting between the programs as co-members of the Southern Conference.

Samford is led in scoring by Savannah Hill, averaging 12.9 points per game. Karmen Smith is ranked second on the team in scoring with an average of 10.4 points per game.

Hill also leads the team in rebounding. She averages 6.6 rebounds per game. Chika Okoli is second on the squad with an average of 4.3 boards per contest.

Emily London leads the team in assists with 24 for the season. Monica Maxwell is second on the team in assists with 15.

For Wofford, Liz Miller and Natalie Gramblin share the team lead in scoring, averaging 9.4 points per game. Miller also leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 5.8 boards per contest.

Entering Thursday night's game, Samford ranks among the leaders in the Southern Conference in several statistical categories. The Bulldogs rank in the top five in scoring defense (1st-52.1 ppg.), scoring margin (1st-+8.4 ppg.), free throw percentage (3rd-.748), field goal percentage defense (1st-.343), three-point field goal percentage defense (T-1st-.212), rebounding defense (2nd-36.1 rpg.), turnover margin (1st-+6.86 pg.) and assist/turnover ratio (1st-1.1).

Thursday night's game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. (CT) tip-off from Wofford's Benjamin Johnson Arena.
