London Named OVC Freshman Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford freshman guard Emily London was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Freshman of the Week, when the league released its weekly women's basketball awards on Monday.

London, a native of Lexington, Ky., led the Bulldogs with 17 points in Samford's lone game last week, a 65-56 overtime win at Austin Peay.

In the win, London made 4-of-7 shots from the floor, including 2-of-4 from three-point range. She also made 7-of-9 attempts from the free-throw line, and she led the team with three steals in the game.

For the season, London leads Samford in scoring, averaging 12.2 points per game. She also leads the team in shooting percentage (51.1%), three-point shooting percentage (45.2%) and free-throw percentage (83.8%). She is second on the team in assists with 61, and she is tied for second on the squad in steals with 26.

The honor marks the third time this season London has been named the league's Freshman of the Week. She also won the award on Jan. 2, and again on Jan. 21.

London and the Bulldogs play host to Morehead State on Thursday. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
