COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Samford golf coach Woodie Eubanks, his staff and players remember legendary Tennessee Tech golf coach Bobby Nichols today. The fellow Ohio Valley Conference coach lost a bout with cancer Sunday morning.
"I looked up to Bobby so much in every aspect of his life," Eubanks said. "He was an extremely kind man and I respected the way he coached as well as the way he related to his players. He welcomed me in as a young coach when Samford joined the OVC and I truly appreciated that. I admired the way his spiritual life grew over the past few year, even before he learned of his cancer. He completely changed his lifestyle and was just a first class guy."
A member of the TTU Sports Hall of Fame, Nichols was the region's greatest advocated for his sport, and was recognized as one of the most successful players and coaches in Tennessee.
Due to this tragic occurrence, the women's golf team has chosen to cancel its appearance in the Samford Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday.
"Our hearts go out to all the Tennessee Tech staff as well as the players and Coach Nichols' family during this time," Eubanks said. "They all are continually in our thoughts and prayers."
