Baseball To Host Mercer And Play At Troy In Midweek Games

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will play two midweek games this week. The Bulldogs will play host to Mercer Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field, and they will travel to Troy Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.

Samford enters the week with a record of 21-11 after sweeping a three-game series with Austin Peay over the weekend. Mercer is currently 15-22 after dropping two of three games to North Florida over the weekend. Troy enters the week at 21-15 after falling in two of three games at Florida Atlantic last weekend.

Samford is led at the plate by Michael Marseco, batting .391 with 29 RBI. Michael Rutledge is batting .381 with a team-high 34 RBI. Marcus Rodriguez and Bear Burnett are tied for the team lead in home runs with four each. Jonathan Stephens (5-0, 2.51 ERA) has been the leader of the pitching staff so far this season.

John Dortch leads Mercer at the plate with a .358 batting average and 41 RBI. Billy Shaughnessy has a .353 batting average for the Bears. Dortch and Mike Armstrong share the team lead in home runs with four each. Justin Boyette (4-1, 3.31 ERA) and David Harden (3-1, 4.68 ERA) have been the top pitchers for the Bears this season.

Troy is led by Beau Brooks with a .336 batting average and 27 RBI. Bryan Miller is batting .316 for the Trojans. Ryan Ellison (2-1, 4.53 ERA) and Travis Burge (5-3, 4.70 ERA) have led the Trojan pitching staff.
