Southeast Missouri's Trenton Moses singled to center field to drive in Jim Klocke in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Redhawk baseball team to a 7-6 win over Samford in an Ohio Valley Conference contest Sunday afternoon at Capaha Field.
For Samford (23-14, 10-4 OVC), Wayne Miller was 2-for-4 wit three RBI. Michael Marseco, Bear Burnett and John Morgan had two hits each for the Bulldogs. Marseco extended his career-long hitting streak to 22 games.
Joshua Vanfleteren pitched 3.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits to take the loss on the mound.
For SEMO (16-16, 7-6 (OVC), Tyrell Cummings, Matt Wagner and Blake Slattery had a home run each for the Redhawks. Lance Rhodes pitched the final 1.1 innings to earn the win for the Redhawks.
SEMO jumped on top first with a run in the bottom of the first inning. After Cummings reached base on a Samford error with two outs, Wagner singled to center field to drive in Cummings for a 1-0 Redhawk lead.
Samford came back to tie the score with a run in the top of the second inning. Burnett led the inning off with a walk and moved to second base when Morgan was hit by a pitch. Wayne Miller then singled through the left side of the infield to drive in Burnett to make the score 1-1.
The Bulldogs took the lead with a run in the top of the third inning. Marseco singled up the middle, and Burnett later doubled down the right-field line to drive in Marseco to give Samford a 2-1 lead.
SEMO answered with a run in the bottom of the third inning to tie the score at 2-2. Slattery led the inning off with a home run to center field for the tying run.
The Redhawks took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Wagner led the inning off with a home run to give SEMO a 3-2 lead.
SEMO added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to push its lead to 6-2. Cummings hit a two-run home run to left field with Justin Wheeler on base for the first two runs of the inning. Zachary Blemker later tripled to drive in Wagner for a four-run SEMO lead.
Samford plated two runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the SEMO lead to 6-4. Marcus Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Michael Rutledge to make the score 6-3. Drew Reagan then doubled to right-center field to drive in Burnett to cut the SEMO lead to two.
Samford tied the score with two runs in the top of the eighth inning. Miller singled to left field to drive in Matt Zauchin and Morgan to tie the score at 6-6.
Samford will return to action on Tuesday when the Bulldogs play at Auburn. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start from Plainsman Park in Auburn.
