The Lipscomb baseball team plated runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take a 4-2 come-from-behind win over Samford Tuesday night at Ken Dugan Field.
With the loss, Samford drops to 29-19. Lipscomb improves to 25-23 with the win.
Samford was led at the plate by Michael Marseco, going 3-for-3. Tripp Swann hit a solo home run in a 1-for-4 performance. Marcus Rodriguez also drove in a run for the Bulldogs.
David Knapp (3-2) took the loss on the mound for Samford, pitching 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits.
For Lipscomb, Justin Sanders was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Allen Bolden and Jay Moreland drove in a run each for Lipscomb. Chris Burnett pitched 3.2 innings in relief, giving up just one hit to pick up the win.
After Lipscomb took an early lead with a run in the second inning, Samford came back with a run in the top of the fourth inning and another in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. Swann led the fourth inning off with a home run to tie the score. Samford took the lead when Rodriguez singled through the right side of the infield to drive in Michael Johnson.
Lipscomb tied the score with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bolden flew out to right field to drive in Moreland to make the score 2-2.
The Bisons took the lead for good with a run in the sixth inning, and then added another run in the seventh inning to make the final score 4-2. Moreland grounded out to drive in Justin Sanders for the game-winning run. The game's final run was scored when Sanders singled to right field to drive in Bolden in the seventh inning.
Samford will return to action on Saturday, when the Bulldogs play host to Morehead State in an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The teams will also play a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
