The Samford University men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision against the Oregon Ducks on Friday as the Bulldogs opened their 2009 dual-match season at the University of Oregon Student Tennis Complex. Samford's Brian Dushock and Carson Kadi both picked up victories in singles play Friday.
With the win, Oregon (5-1) completed a sweep in its day-night doubleheader held in Eugene, Ore. The Ducks also improved to 5-0 at home with the duo of victories.
Samford (0-1) dropped the doubles point to open the match with a 1-0 deficit as Oregon earned victories on courts No. 1 and No. 2. In the No. 3 doubles competition, the Bulldogs' combination of Oliver Reynolds and Carl Abalos rallied for a 9-7 victory over the Ducks' duo comprised of Duncan MacDonald-Korth and Jose' Izquierdo.
In singles play, Samford's Dushock breezed by Oregon's Marcos Verdasco, 6-3, 6-3, on court No. 1. The Bulldogs' Kadi also won his match on court No. 5 as the Ducks' Mike Myrhed pulled up lame with an injury and was forced to default the match.
Samford will continue play in the 2009 Oregon Spring Invitational on Saturday with a pair of non-conference matches against Portland and Idaho. The Bulldogs will square off against Portland at 11 a.m. (CST) and meet Idaho at 6 p.m. (CST).
