BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford football team practiced for about an hour in shells Thursday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The workout was the final practice of the team's off week, with the Bulldogs taking Friday and Saturday off.
Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said the coaching staff decided to cut Thursday's workout short after having good workouts on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"We've had two good days (on Tuesday and Wednesday), so we cut it short today," Sullivan said.
"We wanted for it to be a good practice and I think we were able to get in some good work. They'll be off tomorrow and Saturday, and then we will come back and start working on The Citadel on Sunday."
Sullivan added that he was pleased with the work his team put in during its lone off week of the 2009 season.
"I think we've had spirited practices for an off week," Sullivan said "Our practices were shorter this week, but I thought the focus and concentration of our players was really good."
Samford will return to practice with a short workout Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., as the Bulldogs begin game-week preparations for The Citadel.
Samford's next game is at The Citadel on Oct. 31, and is scheduled for a 12 p.m. (CT) kickoff from Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston, S.C. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu.
