LAKE CHARLES, La. -
The Samford women's basketball team will play on the road for the second-straight game when the Bulldogs play at McNeese State Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
Samford enters the game with a record of 2-0 after a 69-66, come-from-behind win at Evansville on Sunday. The Bulldogs also defeated in-state rival Jacksonville State, 59-46 to open the season on Nov. 13.
McNeese State is currently 1-1 on the young season. The Cowgirls are coming off a 76-51 win over Texas College, and MSU dropped its season-opener to New Orleans, 63-52.
Through its first two games, Samford has been led by junior forward Savannah Hill. Hill, who averaged 19.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in the first two games of the season, was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Senior guard Monica Maxwell is second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game. Junior guard Emily London has scored 11.5 points per game through the first two games as well. London is also tied with Hill for the team lead in rebounding, pulling down 6.0 boards per contest.
Kendra Wells has led McNeese State in scoring so far this season, averaging 12.0 points per game. Wells is also the team's leading rebounder with an 8.5 average.
Samford and McNeese State are meeting for just the second time, with Samford having won the only previous meeting. The teams first met last season in the Samford Thanksgiving Classic. The Bulldogs came out victorious in that meeting, winning by a score of 67-48.
In its 12-plus seasons, Samford has posted a record of 63-98 in road games. Last season's team posted the best road record in program history, going 11-3 in road games. This season, Samford has 14 road games on its schedule, and the Bulldogs are currently 1-0 in those games with a 69-66 win at Evansville.
