BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford Baseball coaching staff has recently released the names of the 10 players added to the program in the 2010 Signing Class in the early period. Today we continue the series of profiles on each of the players with a detailed article released on them with their full backgrounds leading to their arrival at Samford. Today's baseball signee in the spotlight is Nick Calloway.
Nick Calloway (6-4, 195, RHP, Lyman High School, Lyman, Fla.) is a tall, hard-throwing right handed pitcher who just completed an outstanding junior season at Lyman High School in Florida where he was selected as the team's most valuable player.
"Nick is a guy who can really pitch," Samford head coach Casey Dunn said. "He has good velocity and great size, and those are two great attributes to start with as a pitcher. We are excited about adding him to our program and feel he can help right away with tremendous upside as well."
During Calloway's junior season he pitched over 32 innings, allowed only seven earned runs on 16 hits and finished the season with a 1.52 earned run average. Calloway gives the Samford baseball coaching staff another signee from the talent rich area in Florida.
"We have had a lot of success recruiting the state of Florida since our very first class and it has continued with this group again," Dunn said. "Nick has played against some outstanding competition and performed at an extremely high level. He will be an outstanding addition to our baseball program."
Calloway will have an opportunity to contribute right away on the mound for the Bulldogs next season.
