Track And Field To Participate In Tiger Paw Invitational

Feb. 13, 2009

CLEMSON, S.C. ---- The Samford University track and field teams will face top competition this weekend as they compete in the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson University. The meet is the third for the Bulldogs in the indoor season and Samford will get an early look at the facility it will be competing in for the Southern Conference Indoor Championships in two weeks.

The meet will feature over 20 schools from around the Southeast, including several SocCon teams such as Western Carolina and Appalachian State. The meet gets under way Friday night at 5 p.m. and continues throughout the day on Saturday.

In the two previous meets, Samford has walked away with two school records, numerous personal bests and a first place win for the men and second place for the women last week at the Tiger Invitational. The Bulldogs hope to keep up the success which will prepare them for the conference championships in a couple of weeks.

"We are hoping to step up to the competition and test our self at the next level," Samford head coach Rod Tiffin said. "Clemson has a great tradition and program so it will be fun to see how we do against the big boys. Our main goal for the weekend is to get a little more work in a try to stay healthy. It will be good to run where the conference meet will be hosted so we get a look at the track and facilities."

A full recap and results will be available at the end of each day on www.samfordsports.com. The first day of action will be available online on ACC Select, beginning at 6 p.m.
