Women's Basketball Game Notes In PDF Format
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford women's basketball team will travel to Boone, N.C., to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a Southern Conference game Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Center.
Samford enters the game with a record of 19-4 overall and 14-2 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs have won 13 of their last 14 games and currently stand in second place in the SoCon standings, just one game behind Chattanooga.
Appalachian State is currently 7-17 overall and 6-9 in Southern Conference play. The Mountaineers defeated Wofford, 72-68, on Wednesday.
Samford and Appalachian State are meeting for just the second time with the only previous meeting coming earlier this season. On Jan. 17, Samford defeated Appalachian State, 87-51, in the Pete Hanna Center.
Samford is led in scoring by sophomore forward Savannah Hill, averaging 13.2 points per game. Sophomore guard Emily London, who was named the SoCon's Player of the Week earlier this week after two stellar performances, is second on the squad in scoring with an average 12.9 points per game.
Hill also leads the team in rebounding with an average of 5.8 rebounds per game. Senior forward Chika Okoli is currently second on the team in rebounding, pulling down 4.7 boards per contest.
London is the team leader in assists with an average of 2.5 assists per game. Junior guard Megan Wilderotter is second on the squad in assists, dishing out 2.4 assists per game.
ASU is led in scoring by Brittany Mixon, averaging 11.8 points per game. Sam Ramirez is averaging 9.7 points per game. Canesha Edwards is the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 7.9 boards per contest.
Entering Saturday's game, Samford leads the Southern Conference in several statistical categories. The Bulldogs lead the league in scoring defense (51.6 ppg.), field goal percentage defense (35.6%), three-point field goal percentage defense (24.3%), turnover margin (+4.57), assist/turnover ratio (1.1) and three-pointers made per game (8.2 pg.).
