Women's Tennis To Host UNF Saturday At Noon

Feb. 20, 2009

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University women's tennis team will conclude its season-opening, three-match homestand Saturday at noon as the Bulldogs square off against the North Florida (UNF) Ospreys at the Samford Tennis Center.

Samford (0-2) heads into the non-conference matchup with hopes of picking up its first dual-match victory of the 2009 spring season. Last week, the Bulldogs played host to a pair of non-conference opponents and suffered hard-fought losses against both Memphis 4-2 and Georgia State 6-1.

In the first two matches of the season, Samford's Taylor Morgan proved to be one of the Bulldogs' top performers. In singles play, Morgan compiled a 1-1 record and cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Memphis' Margorie Ondeck on court No. 1. Samford's sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., also tallied a perfect 2-0 record in doubles play.

UNF (3-0) enters Saturday match with an unblemished record this season. The Ospreys have opened the 2009 campaign with consecutive wins against Georgia Southern 5-2, Missouri-Kansas City 7-0 and Florida A&M 6-1.

So far this season, the Ospreys have three singles players with undefeated records. Raquel Castro is 3-0 at the courts No. 2 and No. 3, while Ina Durcakova is 3-0 at courts No. 4 and No. 5. Victoria Krook is also 3-0 in singles play this season.

Following Saturday's home match against UNF, the Samford women's tennis team will next be in action Sunday at 9 a.m., as the Bulldogs travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for an in-state matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Sunday's match will be held at the UA Tennis Stadium.
