BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will play host to the Western Carolina Catamounts in a key Southern Conference game Monday evening at the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford enters the game with a record of 21-4 overall and 16-2 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs currently stand in first place in the league, and a win Monday night would secure at least a share of the conference's regular-season title. However, the Bulldogs would still need to win their Feb. 28 game against Chattanooga to win the title outright and secure the top seed in the upcoming SoCon Tournament.

Western Carolina is currently 16-11 overall and 12-6 in league play. The Catamounts are fourth in the league, just a half a game behind College of Charleston for third place. The Catamounts enter the game on a five-game winning streak.

Samford and Western Carolina are meeting for just the second time with the only previous meeting coming earlier this season. On Jan. 10, Samford won at Western Carolina by a score of 69-41.

Samford is led in scoring by sophomore guard Emily London, who has been named the SoCon's Player of the Week for the last two weeks in a row. London averages 13.5 points per game. Sophomore forward Savannah Hill is second on the team in scoring with an average of 13.1 points per game.

Hill leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 5.6 rebounds per game. Senior forward Chika Okoli is second on the squad in rebounding, averaging 4.7 boards per contest.

London leads the team in assists, with an average of 2.6 assists per game. Junior guard Megan Wilderotter is second on the team in assists, dishing out 2.5 assists per contest.

Western Carolina is led by Lauren Powell and Brooke Johnson, each averaging 10.2 points per game. Johnson is also the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 7.2 boards per contest.

Monday night's game is Samford's Pink Zone game. The athletics department will be selling pink apparel (t-shirts, shoelaces and crocs) at the game, with all proceeds going to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.

The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start Monday evening at the Pete Hanna Center. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu.
