Women's Hoops To Take On UNC Greensboro Friday Morning In SoCon Tournament

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Samford women's basketball team will take on UNC Greensboro Friday morning at 8 a.m. (CT) in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament. UNCG advanced to the game after defeating Wofford, 83-64, Thursday evening.

The winner of Friday morning's game will advance to the tournament semifinals to take on the winner of the game between No. 3 Western Carolina and either No. 6 Georgia Southern or No. 11 Elon. The semifinal game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (CT) on Sunday. The championship game of the tournament is scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m. (CT).

Samford enters the tournament with a record of 21-6 overall and 16-4 in SoCon play. UNC Greensboro has a record of 13-17 overall and 9-11 in league play.

Samford and UNC Greensboro have met twice, with the series tied at 1-1. Earlier this season, Samford defeated UNCG, 44-41 in Birmingham on Dec. 29, and the Spartans defeated Samford, 49-37 on Feb. 2 in Greensboro.

Samford is led in scoring by sophomore guard Emily London, averaging 14.1 points per game. London was named to the SoCon's All-Conference team earlier this week. Sophomore forward Savannah Hill is second in scoring with an average of 12.4 points per game. Hill was also named All-Conference earlier this week.

Hill is the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 5.4 boards per contest. Senior forward Chika Okoli is second in rebounding with an average of 4.8 rebounds per game.

Junior guard Megan Wilderotter is the team-leader in assists, dishing out 2.5 assists per game. London is second in assists, averaging 2.4 assists per game.

Samford is 5-7 all-time in the postseason. The Bulldogs posted a 2-3 record in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament from 1997 to 2003, and the team was 3-4 all-time in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament from 2004 to 2008.
