BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will play host to the Davidson Wildcats in a three-game Southern Conference series this weekend at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The series will open with a game Friday night at 6 p.m. Due to the threat of inclement weather on Sunday, the teams will play a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs are currently 10-17 overall and 6-6 in Southern Conference play. Samford dropped two midweek games this week to cross-town rival UAB. The Bulldogs fell in the games by scores of 17-7 and 9-2. Samford has been led at the plate by left fielder David Schulze, batting .367 with six home runs and 34 RBI. Center fielder Wayne Miller is batting .353 with 13 RBI. Third baseman Mason Meredeth has a .346 batting average with four home runs at 20 RBI.

On the mound, Samford is scheduled to start Michael Jarry (2-3, 5.65 ERA) on Friday. David Knapp (3-1, 5.97 ERA) will start the first game on Saturday, and Andrew Jones (3-1, 4.72 ERA) is scheduled to start the series finale.

The Wildcats enter the weekend with a record of 10-12 overall and 5-4 in SoCon play. Davidson fell to fifth-ranked North Carolina, 9-5 on Tuesday.

Davidson is led offensively by Zach Kayne, batting .374 with five home runs and 18 RBI. Pat Brady has an average of .350 with five home runs and 20 RBI.

Thomas Middour (2-1, 5.58 ERA) is scheduled to start Friday night's game on the mound for the Wildcats. Chris Lamb (1-2, 6.16 ERA) will start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Davidson has not named a starter for the series finale.

Samford and Davidson are meeting for just the second time in baseball, with Samford holding a 1-0 advantage in the series. The teams met on March 4, 1999, with Samford defeating Davidson, 10-5, in Birmingham.
