The Samford basketball team's game at the College of Charleston on Feb. 6 will be featured as the Southern Conference's SportSouth Game of the Week, it was officially announced Thursday. The 3 p.m. (CST) matchup is slated to be one of 14 SoCon games to be highlighted on either SportSouth or FOX Sports South this season.
SportSouth and the Southern Conference announced Thursday their 2009-10 basketball television schedule, which includes 14 men's and five women's games. SportSouth will televise 15 games, with an additional four games scheduled to air on FOX Sports South. The SoCon Saturdays brand, utilized to promote Southern Conference programming on SportSouth, returns for the 2009-10 SoCon basketball schedule, as all 10 regular-season games will be televised on Saturdays.
SportSouth's coverage of SoCon basketball begins with a men's contest between Appalachian State and Davidson on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. (CST). The women's basketball schedule opens on Saturday, Jan. 16 with game one of a SoCon doubleheader when Chattanooga hosts Western Carolina at 11 a.m. (CST). Game two features the Chattanooga men's squad and the College of Charleston at 1:30 p.m. (CST) following women's basketball action.
The men's schedule includes 10 conference games and four contests pitting SoCon teams against ACC opponents, as well as both semifinal matchups from the 2010 Southern Conference Men's Basketball Tournament at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C.
SportSouth will televise both semifinal games and the championship from the 2010 Southern Conference Women's Basketball Tournament also in Charlotte. In addition, SportSouth will televise two regular-season contests as part of doubleheaders with SoCon men's games.
