Football Has Good Day Of Preparation For Furman

Oct. 13, 2010

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about two hours in shells Wednesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs are continuing to prepare for Saturday's home game against Furman, which will be televised live on SportSouth.

Samford head coach Pat Sullivan praised his team's effort through the first three practices of the week.

"We've had a good week so far," Sullivan said. "We're not polished yet. I'm glad we have another couple of days to go. But, our effort has been good. It will have to be good Saturday against a good Furman team."

Saturday's game is part of SportSouth's SoCon Saturdays series in which the network televises one SoCon game each week throughout the season.

"Obviously, it's nice to be able to showcase Samford, for our recruits and for our Samford family," Sullivan said. "I hope the stands will be full. It looks like it's going to be a good day, weather-wise. Hopefully, if we do our part, it will be another barn-burner like it has been the last two years."

Sullivan said, through the first six games of the season, he has been pleased with the progress the team's special teams have made.

"I think our special teams have gotten better," Sullivan said. "I think they have really improved as the season has gone along."

Samford will hold its final full practice of the week on Thursday. The practice is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.

Saturday's home game against Furman is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start from Seibert Stadium. In addition to the SportSouth broadcast, the game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu.
