BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The 2010 Samford baseball recruiting class has been nationally ranked for the fifth time in six years under head coach Casey Dunn by Collegiate Baseball.
The Samford Baseball coaching staff brought in 13 new additions to the program this year for the 2011 baseball season, with multiple players drafted in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft.
Coach Dunn is pleased with the recognition.
"It is always a positive for our program to receive national recognition for the type of players we are bringing into the program," Dunn said. "We saw the immediate advantages with the move to the Southern Conference and expect these guys to contribute heavily right away."
The group includes Brandon Miller, drafted twice in his career after high school and junior college, and Mark Donham, selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 33rd round in this year's draft. The class also includes a total of seven junior college transfers and one former Georgia Tech player.
According to Recruiting Coordinator Tony David the class is older to address needs.
"We don't normally do a lot of junior college recruiting, but we lost a lot of production from our lineup last season," David said. "There are returners who will play key roles, but we felt the need to go out and get a few guys who had offensive success beyond high school to come in and impact our program. This is our first large class since the move to this conference, and we feel the talent level has risen on the squad because of it."
The Samford recruiting class was in the top 75 in the nation and was the second highest ranked recruiting class in the Southern Conference. The entire recruiting class is available on the baseball page.
