Evans And Davis Earn National Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford senior running back Chris Evans and junior defensive lineman Alex Davis were named honorable mention Players of the Week for their respective positions by the College Football Performance Awards on Monday.

Evans, who came to Samford from Alexandria, Ala., scored Samford's lone touchdown on a 33-yard run in the second quarter of Saturday's 27-10 loss to Furman. For the game, Evans rushed 23 times for 157 yards and a touchdown.

For the season, Evans has rushed for 707 yards and five touchdowns on 127 carries. Evans ranks second in the Southern Conference, averaging 101.1 rushing yards per game so far this season.

Davis, a native of Birmingham, tallied three of Samford's four sacks, for a loss of 16 yards in Saturday's game. He was second on the team in total tackles with seven, all solo, against the Paladins.

Davis shares the team lead in tackles for a loss with five on the season for a total loss of 19 yards. He has 23 total tackles and one fumble recovery for the season.

Samford is taking this week off from competition. The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 30, when they play at Georgia Southern.
