Football Prepares For Western Carolina

Oct. 5, 2010

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about two hours in full pads Tuesday afternoon at Seibert stadium. The Bulldogs are preparing for Saturday's Southern Conference game at Western Carolina.

The team began working on its game plan for this week's game during the practice. Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said he liked the way his team worked during Tuesday's workout.

"I thought we had a good working practice today," Sullivan said. "I thought the players' minds were on their business and we had a good Tuesday practice."

Sullivan announced that senior wide receiver DeMarcus Covington, who has missed the last two games, was back at practice for the first time since suffering a knee injury during Samford's 38-35 win over Newberry College on Sept. 16. Through the first three games of the season, Covington had five catches for 64 yards.

Sullivan said the Bulldogs have another tough SoCon game coming up this weekend at Western Carolina. The game marks Samford's fourth road game in its first six contests of the season.

"It's another Southern Conference game," Sullivan said. "They're coming off a win against The Citadel. Their confidence is up. It has been a dog fight the last two years for us and I'm sure it will be the same Saturday."

Samford will practice again Wednesday at Seibert Stadium. The practice is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.

Saturday's game at Western Carolina is scheduled for a 2 p.m. (CT) start from E.J. Whitmire Stadium in Cullowhee, N.C. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu.
