Football Practices For The Citadel

Nov. 16, 2010

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about two hours in full pads Tuesday night at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs are preparing for Saturday's season finale at home against The Citadel.

The practice was the first of the week for the Bulldogs in preparation for Saturday's game. Samford head coach Pat Sullivan praised The Citadel and said his team has a tough task ahead of it.

"They've been very good defensively," Sullivan said. "They've changed and gone to the option-type offense. Really the last couple of weeks they've settled on their quarterback and center. They had been turning the ball over a lot early, but I thought they played their best game two weeks ago against Elon. They'll come in here with a week's rest after taking last week off. That always helps this time of year. We have our work cut out for us."

Saturday's game will mark the final home game for Samford's 2010 senior class. Sullivan said he hopes to send this year's seniors out on a positive note.

"It's our seniors' last game," Sullivan said. "Obviously, we want them to go out with a good taste in their mouths. These seniors will remember their last game. They have given so much to this university, so hopefully they can go out with a win."

Samford is coming off a 48-14 loss to Chattanooga last Saturday. The Bulldogs enter the game with a record of 4-6 overall and 2-5 in Southern Conference play, while The Citadel is currently 2-8 overall and 0-7 in league play.

"We're coming off a tough week last week," Sullivan said. "Chattanooga was a good football team, we didn't match up well in some areas against them and quite honestly, we didn't play our best game."

Saturday's game against The Citadel is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff from Seibert Stadium. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu. The contest can also be viewed online via the Bulldog Big Screen at www.samfordsports.com.
