Football Continues Reading Initiative to Promote Education Day

Nov. 2, 2010

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Members of the Samford football team continuted their reading initiative to promote Education Day by visiting Vestavia East Elementary School and Vestavia Central Elementary on Monday.

Offensive linemen Jacob Kirschenbaum, Branden Moore and Chris Graben spent time at Vestavia East Elementary, while safety Alvin Hines II and defensive end Erik Peterson both visited Vestavia Central Elementary.

The players read books, answered questions and explained the important role a good education plays in life after school. The Samford players presented students at the schools with a "Bulldog Buddies" bookmark.

Football players will be visiting other schools in the Birmingham area leading up to the Nov. 20 Education Day game against The Citadel.

Samford football will be hosting Education Day on Saturday, Nov. 20 for the Bulldogs' game against The Citadel. All kids, who bring their bookmark, will be admitted to the football game for free with a paid adult.

All kids in attendance can enter to win a free flat-screen television to be given away at the game. Also, the school who brings the most children to the game will receive a donation from the Samford Athletics Department to the winning school's library.
