CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Samford women's basketball team will open Southern Conference play with a game at Western Carolina Monday evening at 6 p.m. (CT) in the Ramsey Center.

Samford enters the game with a record of 3-2. The Bulldogs are coming off a 64-47 win over South Florida Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Samford Thanksgiving Classic. Samford went 2-0 in the tournament, also defeating Alabama State, 71-55 on the opening day of the event.

In the tournament Samford was led by seniors Emily London and Savannah Hill. London was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after averaging 18.5 points in Samford's two wins. Hill was named to the All-Tournament team, averaging 17.5 points in the event.

For the season, London leads the team in scoring (15.8 ppg.) and assists (19). Hill leads the team in rebounding (4.4 rpg.) and ranks second in scoring (13.6 ppg.). Redshirt junior Ruth Ketcham, who sat out last season after transferring from Auburn, ranks third in scoring with an average of 8.0 points per game and in assists with a total of seven.

Western Carolina is currently 1-3 on the young season. The Catamounts are coming off a 93-36 loss at North Carolina on Nov. 21.

The Catamounts are led by Caitlin Hollifield, averaging 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Kaila'Shea Menendez is averaging 11.8 points per game, while Kendra Carroll is contributing 10.0 points per contest so far for WCU.

Samford and Western Carolina are meeting for the sixth time, with Samford holding a 3-2 advantage in the series. Last season, Samford won both meetings. The Bulldogs took an 80-65 win in Birmingham and a 53-42 victory in Cullowhee, N.C.

Now in its third season as a member of the Southern Conference, Samford has a record of 30-10 in SoCon games. Samford has an all-time record of 38-18 against Southern Conference teams.
