Women's Hoops To Play At Charleston Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will return to Southern Conference play with a game at the College of Charleston Saturday evening at 5 p.m. (CT) at Carolina First Arena.

Samford enters the game with a record of 6-2 overall and 1-0 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 58-48 non-conference win over Clemson last Sunday.

The Bulldogs are led in scoring by senior guard Emily London, averaging 16.0 points per game. London, who was named the SoCon's Player of the Week on Tuesday, led Samford with 17 points in Sunday's win over Clemson.

Senior forward Savannah Hill is second in scoring, averaging 10.5 points per game. Hill leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 5.1 boards per contest and in assists, dishing out 4.3 assists per game.

Junior guards Ruth Ketcham (9.0 ppg.) and Paige Anderson (7.9 ppg.) rank third and fourth on the team in scoring, respectively. Junior Alex Crow ranks second on the squad in rebounding, with an average of 4.4 rebounds per game.

As a team, Samford leads the Southern Conference in five statistical categories. The Bulldogs are at the top of the league in scoring defense (54.6 ppg.), free-throw percentage (.798), three-point field goal percentage (.439), rebounding defense (32.6 rpg.) and three-point field goals per game (9.0).

College of Charleston is currently 4-5 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Cougars are coming off a 56-50 win over Chattanooga on Thursday.

The College of Charleston is led in scoring by Tonia Gerty, averaging 11.2 points per game so far this season. Janae Smith leads the team in rebounds per game, pulling down 6.0 boards per contest. Deidre Ramer is averaging 5.6 rebounds per game. Gerty is also the team leader in assists, dishing out 3.2 per game.

Samford and the College of Charleston are meeting for the seventh time, with Samford holding a 6-0 advantage in the series. Last season, Samford defeated Charleston twice, winning by a score of 70-47 in Birmingham, and by a score of 57-50 in Charleston.
